Chris Bolton, director of Praevar, was called as a witness June 28th 2023 in theUS International Trade Commission (ITC) hearing relating to the dispute between Manufacturing Resources International (MRI), an Atlanta-based manufacturer of outdoor and semi-outdoor digital liquid-crystal displays, and electronics giant Samsung.
“ The reality is that some of this technology has been developed over decades and knowledge and expertise transferred from other sectors, notably the ruggedised telecoms field. Many engineers have drawn on this knowledge – myself included. To be patent-able in this field, products need to be truly innovative.
The formal investigation into patent infringement was launched by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) following a complaint on 19 August 2022 by MRI. The complaint alleged that Samsung Electronics and its affiliate Samsung SDS infringe on five of MRI’s patents. The patents concern cooling systems for electronic displays used in outdoor kiosks, according to a notice posted by ITC.
Chris Bolton, founder of industry leading digital signage provider Praevar, appeared as a material witness at the hearing.
